Brazil discovered on November 8th a huge oil reserves very close of Santos Basin, in the region of Tupi. The reserve should have a volume of 5.8 billions barrels of oil and natural gas. The reserves are under a large lay of salt in 5.000 maters of depth. Petrobras, Brazil's national oil company, has been€ doing examinations in the area and it should start to extract the oil at least two years and Petrobras said that the find has the potential to move Brazil into a position where it is one of the top ten oil reserves in the world.
Recently the British magazine ''The Economist'' said that God must really be Brazilian. The comment was based in a Brazilian typical expression: ''God is Brazilian''. The magazine also said that the Brazilians forests are the biggest of the world, the soil is very fertile and underground there are large mineral resources for the Brazilian economic growth. A senior minister said Brazilian oil production had the potential to match that of Venezuela. Actually, Venezuela has the biggest oil and natural gas reserves in South America and it it also should remove the influence and oil monopoly of Venezuela in South America.
The discovery was also excellent for Brazilians, because the reserves are vey close of the biggest region of Brazilian industry. The Santos Basin is very near of Sao Paulo. It means that it will be easy extract and transport the oil. The biggest and most important industries are there. The region will grow up much more. But, as a Brazilian, I am afraid of the discovery become the richest Brazilian states much richer and the poorest much poorer, it would increase the social difference, it is already huge. Brazilian politician and Petrobras must have competence to manage that situation. I am used to seeing the rich people become rich and on the other hand the poor people do not have food, clean water and clothes. it is very common un Brazil. But, of course, that is excellent news and Brazil has all things for to grow in all aspects and with a reserve like thas, the country could be transformed into an exporter of petroleum.
The news is the second biggest oil discover in two decades and together with the hydraulic power and the new bio-fuel, from sugar cane and soya beans, that the country has been investing for years, will transforme Brazil in the contry with more energetic resources of the world.
